For the first time in what seems like a decade, Eagles fans are beyond ecstatic for the arrival of of the newest draft class.  Being touted as one of the teams who drafted best by various news outlets is also something that hasn’t happened to the Philadelphia Eagles in quite some time, if at all really.

Most influential in 2012-2013 season:  Mychal Kendricks – Many would probably say Fletcher Cox, but let’s be honest…he would have to earn a starting lineup spot over Cullen Jenkins or Mike Patterson and I do not see that happening over night.  In my eyes Kendricks was definitely “the guy” for the Eagles to draft.  The California LB has played both inside and out, was Pac – 12 Defensive Player of the Year and has the school record with 36.5 tackles.  It’s going to be interesting if Kendricks does wind up playing the role of SAM (strongside linebacker) because he is only 5’11″ tall.  We certainly shall see.

Biggest bargain:  Vinny Curry – Does anyone else get as excited as I do about drafting a kid who grew up as an Eagles fan?  From the beginning they seem to take an ornate amount of pride, dedication and loyalty to the both the city and the organization. ”I saw that 215 area code and I broke down and started crying,” Curry exclaimed during an interview.  That’s the kind of guy who is going to be playing for a lot more than a notch in the ‘W’ column on Sundays.  The Marshall star DE had 74 tackles and 11 sacks in 2011.  His consistency has often been questioned, but I think he will prove to be a great investment.

Gamble:  Bryce Brown – What are the Philadelphia Eagles going to do at the RB position behind LeSean McCoy?  It seems as though a 7th round pick fit perfectly into the scheme of Any Reid’s plans since he isn’t a fan of running the ball.  Still, behind McCoy there appears to be a laundry list of guys who wouldn’t really make the grade.  Bryce Brown might be worth it, but then again he might not.  The lesson was learned last year through Ronnie Brown, that picking up a veteran at this position really isn’t the way to go.  I am sure there will be more to come prior to Training Camp as far as the RB position is concerned.

QB Conundrum:  Nick Foles – I was pleased that the QB issue was addressed in a way that was both respectful of Michael Vick and his talent, but made sense.  Foles was a standout at Arizona and showed that he has the ability to play at the next level.  By drafting Ryan Tannehill the Eagles would have caused unecessary drama as I mentioned in a previous article, and quite frankly, it would have been a high risk choice.  Foles is less risk, but with the proper amount of molding and skill training, may very well turn out to be high reward.  If not, the Eagles didn’t lose much.  I’m just happy to have a 6’5″ 243 pound QB…tall and can handle getting dinged up a bit.
