Rey Maualuga, a middle linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals, grew up idolizing Junior Seau, the greatest Samoan football player ever. Last year, Junior offered Rey a ukelele as a way to combat stress and is fondly remembered as always carrying one around himself, strumming and singing songs as only Junior could do.
Now, in the wake of Junior’s apparent suicide, Rey remembers those times and how much of an effect his hero had on him, both on and off the field. Junior Seau may be gone but Rey’s ukelele is not and his plan is to honor his friend by learning how to play.
A Song for Junior

I’m a 41-year old sports fanatic currently residing in Phoenix, Arizona (GO CARDINALS!). I’m also working and going to school full time as I’m studying to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Marketing & Media from Full Sail University in Florida. I received a scholarship to play basketball in Oregon where I grew up and have remained active all through my adult life since then. On any given day, you can regularly find me playing softball, sand volleyball, attending a kickboxing class or participating in numerous outdoor activities.
I’m a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers (love Clay Matthews) and pro football in general! I’m so excited to be a part of the Her Game Life team and look forward to what lies ahead for the female fans of the NFL!!!
