Mattia Maldonado, a devoted mother and Pearland, Texas resident, happened upon an email from Pearland Junior High School South advertising a football camp hosted by ProCamps, an organization that hosts sports camps throughout the country. ProCamps partners with top athletes in various sports to develop training camps for young students. At the ProCamp events, top ranked local coaches as well as the featured athlete run drills for and polish the skills of the attendees.
Mrs. Maldonado took the opportunity to read about the camp, hosted by Texans’ running back Arian Foster, which is scheduled to take place May 5 – 6 2012 at Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas, a suburban neighborhood south of Houston. By happenstance, Mrs. Maldonado came across another ad for the camp in a local Pearland newspaper that advertised a contest for a free registration to the camp. Maldonado entered her son, Charlie, into the contest and was declared the winner. Beaming with pride, Maldonado expressed her excitement at the chance to send her football-loving son to the camp. ”We were just lucky to get a free spot at the camp,” Maldonado said.
Charlie, a 13 year old student at Pearland Junior High School South has played wide receiver for two years for the school team and was beside himself with excitement at the opportunity to meet his favorite player, Arian Foster, and learn from him at the ProCamps event. Not only was Charlie lucky enough to win the free registration, but he will also be able to participate in the camp with three of his closest friends. When asked what he thought about the chance to rub elbows with his favorite player, Charlie stated simply, “I think it’s cool. [Foster] is not only a good player, but he seems like he would be a good teacher.”
The camp targets students ages 7 – 14 and features skills and conditioning stations, as well as daily games and lectures from Arian Foster himself. Charlie Maldonado is not only excited to see Foster in action, but he is looking forward to learning about how to maintain his athletic conditioning during the summer months prior to the football season. ”I am interested to learn how much [Foster] trains during the offseason and how to maintain his level of conditioning [year round],” Maldonado said.
ProCamps not only affords local students the opportunity to hone their football skills, but it also brings together the best players from the local team with the community that supports them. Thanks to ProCamps, students like Maldonado will walk away with invaluable information and insight into the training regiment of top-ranked athletes.
