Arizona Cardinals are off to a rough start. The team re-signed linebacker Clark Haggans to a one year contract for the upcoming season. However, on Wednesday Haggans began his 45 day sentence in a Pennsylvania prison. So what was the reason for jail time? Haggans received a traffic violation in Chandler.
According to one of Haggans’ agents, the linebacker was rushing home from a concert and received a call from the family babysitter, who said Haggans’ 5-year-old daughter was having trouble breathing. His agent made the following statement through Twitter:

According to Sgt. Joe Favazzo of the Chandler Police Department Haggans was cited for extreme DUI, speeding, and a red light violation. Clark Haggans has plead guilty on the extreme DUI and was dismissed from all other charges. The Cardinals player made the following statement , “in hindsight, I should have found another way home, and I take full responsibility for my actions.” Good for Haggan for owning up to his mistake.
In addition to his sentence, Clark Haggans has paid his fine of $3,229 and completed counseling treatment. As for the Cardinals? Well it looks as though the team is aware of the 2011 incident and spokesman, Mark Dalton, stated they are following the case. We will keep you updated.
