News has substantially slowed down over the last couple of weeks, so in the spirit of optimism, we should assume that this is a good thing. But, there’s always something looming over the horizon.
For all of the fans living in the vicinity of Green Bay, or those planning a visit, the Packers recently released their training camp schedule. Training camp begins on July 26th at Ray Nitschke Field, with other highlights being the annual Family Night on August 3rd, at Lambeau Field. For detailed information, fans should head over to the Packers website and print the full training schedule.
A few ongoing questions continue as Charles Woodson returned for mini-camp after being incognito for OTAs. The speculation is that Woodson will move to safety for the upcoming season, but the Packers have yet to reveal specific information. McCarthy seems to suggest that Woodson’s role will differ slightly from previous years. On Woodson’s part, I don’t see any adverse effects in either situation. I slightly raise an eyebrow when considering who would replace him, should his position change.
Despite the eerie silence, the rumor mill churns once again as the receiver situation remains unsettled. A few speculative hints are floating around regarding James Jones’ status with the Packers and that he may be traded. Parts of these hints include information that some teams are taking a strong interest in him as a way to improve their offense. I suppose this doesn’t shock too many people, even those that were a little excited over McCarthy’s previous statements regarding the possibility of keeping six receivers. Yes, I am one of those people.
I’m not sure how to interpret those tidbits of information on the future of the team. I guess the point is to keep us on our toes until everything is finalized, and to give me something to ponder during these quiet times.
