Ravens Dominate the NFL Top 100

NFL Network wrapped up its Top 100 series on Wednesday night and the Baltimore Ravens dominated. The team tied the Philadelphia Eagles for having the most players on the list. Both had seven.

Again, this list is voted on by the players. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with some of the rankings. But, let’s take a look at where they landed:

No. 74 – QB Joe Flacco – this is a good spot. Up 18 spots from last year, it is hard to argue his success. He has never missed a game and has more wins than any other quarterback.

No. 45 – FB Vonta Leach – fullbacks are rarely recognized and appreciated. So, kudos to Vonta for making the list.

No. 22 – RB Ray Rice – I’ll accept this spot for Rice. But, LeSean McCoy ranked ahead of him? “C’mon man.”

No. 20 – LB Ray Lewis – down 16 spots from No. 4 last year, he may have lost a step or two from his prime. But, he’s still the most intimidating player in the NFL.

No. 16 – S Ed Reed – down 11 spots from No. 5 last year, his interceptions saw a decline last season. But, that didn’t stop teams from not throwing to his side of the field.

No. 11 – LB Terrell Suggs – Seriously? The reigning Defensive Player of the Year should be in the Top 10.

No. 9 – DT Haloti Ngata – one of the best in the league at his position and three-time Pro Bowler. This could be a sign of what’s to come for Ngata.

Biggest Snub:  Lardarius Webb – he may not be a household name right now. But, the fourth year cornerback out of Nicholls State did not allow a SINGLE touchdown pass last season. He deserves some consideration.

It was fun to see players around the league through the eyes of their peers. Certainly can’t wait to see who cracks next year’s list.

  1. Webb might get on the list next year. Playing next to Ed Reed in the secondary is always going to allow him to be overlooked. I’m sure some players still don’t know who he is. It is quite interesting for the Eagles to have such a bad season last year to have 7 on the list like the Ravens. I still wonder How Ray Lewis is not the number 1 defensive player like last year. (No disrespect to Patrick Willis) Ray Lewis should be in the top-ten. I’m also sure there are other good fullbacks out there and not just Vonta Leach.
