The Bengals Deserve Their Playoff Aspirations

4th of July Trivia Question: In honor of the holiday, let’s add a quick trivia question to this week’s blog. So, which 2012 Bengals draft pick is alleged to have scored a perfect 40 on his Wonderlic test? (*see end of blog for answer*)

NO, I am NOT being sensitive!!!  Yes, there have been quite a few stories in the offseason to suggest that the Cincinnati Bengals are the Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, our offensive side of the ball is ridiculously young and full of rookies being led by two (*cough cough* Pro Bowl) sophomores. Yes, I know I wrote that Bengals’ teams do not live up to high expectations. However, I have every right to expect that Bengals and January 2013 football games make sense. We are undefeated right now, right? ;-)

Easing Blackout restrictions mean nothing when ticket sales are up! Hey NFL, thanks for waiting until people started buying tickets to the 2012 Bengals season to ease your restrictions on blackouts. While I am super excited to know that Bengals fans will be at Paul Brown stadium cheering on our playoff-contending team, I already know this will be another season spending money on the NFL Ticket through Direct TV since I live outside the Bengals TV market. Thanks for nothing…

Shameless Rumor Mongering (because who knows if we can really handle the truth): As we head into the beginning of training camp, some people speculate that Dre Kirkpatrick may not make the 2012 starting roster. Let’s see how injuries go and follow-up on this one! On a side note, a recent rumor started floating around that former Cincinnati running back Cedric Benson may end up teammates with Carson Palmer again… *scratches head* Maybe the Raiders lost all their old tape on those two…

The Earth Is Not Flat (and other reasons to discuss sports other than football): Between now and training camp, it doesn’t hurt to peek around at other Cincinnati teams. Right now, the Cincinnati Reds are 1 game back in their division behind Pittsburgh. Hey! Get out to a game and cheer for them! You need to start conditioning for cheering through four quarters of football anyway!!!

There May Be Life in Other Solar Systems (and other non-sports related news worth mentioning): Sooo… How much longer do we wait for Mitt Romney to announce his vice-presidential running mate? Will he pick someone who campaigned against him? Do you think a woman will make the cut?

There was first grade, and there was understanding a first down. That’s Valencia’s earliest memory of “learning” about football while watching games with her dad and brother. Over the years, her passion for football has grown. She is now a self-professed Bengals fan though occasionally forced into a prayer closet for that type of confession. As a Southerner, she always has love for Georgia red clay and those Dawgs all day! Likewise, she is a proud alumnus of Florida A&M University and bleeds orange and green for life!!!

When she is not scheming on ways to win her fantasy football league championship, a perfect day for her is a lazy Sunday afternoon on the couch in comfy PJs while watching the NFL on a large flat screen TV and eating wings. The best part would be finishing the day with some ESPN Sports Center and Reese’s peanut butter cups for dessert.
