Preseason Game Preview: Giants and Bears “Oh My”

With the third preseason game coming up, we will finally get to see most of the starters playing through the third quarter. Tonight the Giants are facing the Bears at MetLife Stadium. New York and Chicago have not met since October 2010. Both teams are 1-1 this preseason.

Last week, the Bears did an incredible job against the Redskins. The Bears veteran defense held RG3 to only 49 yards on 8 attempts. Peppers and Briggs were doing what they do best. Chicago picked up a key weapon this off-season in Brandon Marshall at wide receiver. He and Cutler looked very sharp against the ‘Skins. The problem they still face is on the offensive line, most importantly the left side. Jay needs to feel comfortable and protected on his blind side for him to step up in the pocket to throw. Players like J’Marcus Webb and Chris Williams have to excel, or the Giants are going to break right through the line, even without the presence of JPP due to back spasims.

Last week the Giants made a mockery of the Jets from start to finish. Eli and company proved yet again why they won the Super Bowl. The offensive line looked better than predicted and their situation at corner seems to be working out with Thomas’ absence.  The Bears will be without their star linebacker Brian Urlacher again due to his left knee injury. Without him playing, it puts even more pressure on the safety position, which is already weak. The Bears have two safeties down (Conte and Hardin) due to injury, leaving the Bears to rely on Major Wright and Craig Steltz to face the Giants dynamic receiving core. There are just too many toys for Eli to play with.

Tonight’s game should be a good to watch because both of these teams should be post- season bound. The Giants are favored by three.

One could say sports has been instilled upon me since birth, being born on a Superbowl Sunday in 1979. From day one I was bleeding Giants blue. My father brought me up to become a women writer and broadcaster for men professional sports. Women seldom did such a thing, and he wanted me to be one of the few. The New York Football Giants was a religion in my home, so much so that we had to pray to a Giants plaque before every game. Die hard enough to the extent of having the Giants helmet tattooed to back of my neck with the Superbowl wins written on the sides of it. Growing up with an older brother, he and his friends let me play street football, baseball, and basketball with them. I’ve done internships with News 12 sports New York, ABC sports New York, 1050 AM ESPN New York, and while attending Queens College hosted the football radio show.
