Attention Fairweather Fans: Stay Away From Cleveland Browns’ Bandwagon

  • Cleveland is one of the few NFL cities, where fans can always have a team to root for, even if the Browns are in the midst of a bye week. My dad has a sign in his basement that reads: “I have two favorite football teams. The Browns, and any team playing the Steelers.” And it’s true. It’s great to always have a backup team, that way you’re never bored during your team’s bye week. I have several friends who, unfortunately, just so happen to be Steelers fans. They often ask me why I don’t just jump on Pittsburgh’s bandwagon. Let me do my best to spit out a rap, which I feel sums up my reasoning perfectly:
“I could always root for the Steelers,
Everyone knows that would be easy.
But the thought of waving a Terrible Towel,
Honestly makes me feel a bit queasy.”
  • I like to believe that the Browns losing frequently, will just make us fans appreciate a Super Bowl win more than other team’s fans. It has to get boring being a fan of the Patriots, Giants, and Packers, after winning so many Super Bowls. It’s usually always obvious these teams will be a contender, but it would catch almost everyone by surprise if the Browns were listed in this group. We would enjoy it more, so that makes me believe us winning a Super Bowl will be the best Super Bowl win of all.

All joking aside, I could never picture myself wearing anything but the orange and brown on game day. Despite everything, I love the Cleveland Browns, and I honestly do have high hopes for them every season. I may get frustrated with them, but never will I turn my back on them.

In my opinion, there’s nothing worse than a bandwagon fan. So, when the Browns start winning, I better not see anyone that ever put down the Browns, jump on my team’s bandwagon.

I graduated from Hiram College where I earned a B.A. in communication, while focusing on journalism. It’s been a dream of mine since I was young to be a sports journalist. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been involved in sports in some capacity. I’ve played sports all of my life, and been a die-hard Cleveland sports fan for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was given strict warnings that if I didn’t root for the Browns, there would be a good possibility my dad would disown me. I hadn’t really watched the Browns prior to them returning in 1999, and I can remember my excitement when they took the field again for the first time. It’s never been easy to be a Cleveland fan, but I’ll never turn my back on my team. Every Sunday, I can be found in my brown and orange rooting on my hometown team that I love dearly.
