Bengals Beat Browns But Lose Lineman

Bengals Beat the Browns and Lose a Lineman.  The Good – Well, the Bengals won the “Battle of Ohio” and extended their current winning streak to four games.  Cincinnati is also now up in that series  42-36.  With the win, the Bengals avoid a 0-2 start and land a second place ranking in the AFC North going into Week 3, ahead of the Steelers and Browns.  Congratulations are also in order to Adam Jones.  After his 81 yard touchdown on a punt return, he was selected as the AFC North Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Bad – As if the defense could afford to lose any more players to injury, DE Jamaal Anderson tore one of his quadriceps tendons in the fourth quarter of the game against the Browns.  At this point, I am starting to consider irrational thoughts which I’m not comfortable communicating without the necessary @#&^!#$/% filters…  Speaking of which…

The Ugly – Did you notice that the whole “Search and Rescue” of our defense did NOT succeed!?!  I mean, we let a rookie QB rebound from a QB rating of 5.1 (out of possible 158.3) in Week 1 to throw for 322 yards and 2 TDs against our defense.  No, I am not going to sugarcoat this situation.  There is an excellent article (WITH PICTURES) circulating around that proves just how inept the defense is playing.   Mike Zimmer, you will never get a head coaching position with this type of film out on you.

Don’t Believe The Hype (because this should be the only time I quote Flavor Flav):  Right about now, I am losing it!  I have so little faith in the defense that it is hard for me to believe that we will pull out a win this week.  Apparently, though, it looks like quite a few people think the Bengals can beat the Redskins.  Hmmm…  Do you keep reading if I am the one feeding you hype you should not believe???

Tweet of the Week (because I might start liking Twitter):  Technically, this was not from this week, but since it is still sooo true:  “The Cincinnati Bengals are dropping faster than Rex Ryan’s weight.”

Fantasy Football Rights and Wrongs (because I am right about 100% of the time – this week):   So, did you pick up the Bengals’ wide receiver Andrew Hawkins like I told you to do?  Did you see that 50 yard TD!?!  Listen, there is waaay too much not to like about Hawkins and his inspiring story.  Go get him!!!  If it helps, the Redskins have gift-wrapped 454 yards and three touchdowns to WRs through week 2!

Life After “Friday Night Lights” (also known as the college football season):  After the loss to Stanford, former #1 ranked USC tumbled out of the top 10.  I don’t think they are particularly concerned as they are still ranked #1 in recruiting players.  Must be nice to have beaches and sunshine as your back-up recruiting tool!

Shameless Rumor Mongering (because who knows if we can really handle the truth): Wow… While Ray Lewis’   “A Football Life” is sure to generate mind-boggling ratings for the NFL Network, Chad Johnson sat down with “Inside the NFL” and admitted to taking anger management classes.  As a person, I hope he finds his way.  However, based on the fact that he was not one of the 67 players who had tryouts this week with the NFL, he may have more time to spend with his buddy Terrell Owens.  Perhaps they will get VH1 to give them a “Life After I Ruined My NFL Career” reality show???

The Earth Is Not Flat (and great reasons to discuss sports other than football):  Say what you want, it still has to be awesome for WNBA star Maya Moore to say she balled out on President Obama.

There May Be Life in Other Solar Systems (and other non-sports related news worth mentioning):    How exactly do you know that your child is an art prodigy before she turns two years old?  I dunno.  Apparently, though, Aelita Andre’s parents figured it out.

There was first grade, and there was understanding a first down. That’s Valencia’s earliest memory of “learning” about football while watching games with her dad and brother. Over the years, her passion for football has grown. She is now a self-professed Bengals fan though occasionally forced into a prayer closet for that type of confession. As a Southerner, she always has love for Georgia red clay and those Dawgs all day! Likewise, she is a proud alumnus of Florida A&M University and bleeds orange and green for life!!!

When she is not scheming on ways to win her fantasy football league championship, a perfect day for her is a lazy Sunday afternoon on the couch in comfy PJs while watching the NFL on a large flat screen TV and eating wings. The best part would be finishing the day with some ESPN Sports Center and Reese’s peanut butter cups for dessert.
