It’s finally here! The season officially begins for the Bills on Sunday, September 9th, against the New York Jets. To say I’m excited is like saying David Beckham is attractive – huge understatement!
Arguably the most productive off-season in awhile is finally coming to a close. The talk surrounding the team shifts from how they look on paper versus, what matters, how they perform on the field. It’s time for them to put their money where their mouths are. Pedal to the metal.
The Jets being their first opponent is actually beneficial to the Bills. Not only is it good to open the season with a division opponent (win and you’re one step ahead in the division), but the Sanchez/Tebow drama has the Jets looking shaky lately.

There are really 2 keys to the Bills pulling out a “W” this weekend:
Fitzpatrick’s Accuracy: There’s no doubt about it, this team is going to thrive or die based upon Fitzpatrick’s performance. Although the defense is much improved (on paper) and could possibly keep them in the game, you can’t win a football game if you don’t score any points. And in the NFL, you don’t usually win a game 3-0 (There are always exceptions). Fitzpatrick has worked on his mechanics in the off-season and, hopefully, his footwork has improved. He really needs to cut down on the interceptions (23 in 2011), and throw some long balls to open up the field. Fitzpatrick’s accuracy will be a key in a win against the Jets.
Bills’ Defense: Mario Williams and Mark Anderson play their first regular season game as Bills and, together with Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams, have not shown what they can really do in the preseason. Hopefully they come out strong on Sunday and put pressure on Sanchez. The Bills have switched to the 4-3 from the 3-4 defense, and they’re hoping the extra man will allow them to, not only get to the quarterback, but also help to defend against the rush.
Well Bills fans, it’s about that time. I’ll be glued to the television all day Sunday. Let’s hope the Bills can start off this season right.
