Janie’s Five Faves: Denver Sports Bars to Catch a Broncos Game

I think we would all agree that the best place to catch a Denver Broncos game is at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, but most of us can’t afford the cost of a game every week. So rather than sit at home alone, my next favorite game-day option is a good local sports bar.

I’ve compiled a list of my five favorite Denver sports bars, scattered throughout the Denver-Metro area.

1. Fox and Hound Bar & Grill – Lone Tree

Fox and Hound has been a favorite of mine for a long time. It’s one of the official watch sites for the Coloradans for Nebraska organization, so I’ve definitely been known to frequent the venue on game days. With more than 30 television screens in three different rooms, it’s an excellent location to take in a game or two. They have the highest-level sports cable package, so you’re guaranteed to find your game on at least one of the screens. And to treat yourself after a Broncos touchdown, make sure to order the Great Cookie Blitz. Yum!

2. Sports Column

Even though it is considered the official sports bar of the Colorado Rockies, Broncos fans will not be disappointed. Sports Column is a nationally recognized bar, voted Denver’s best sports bar by Fox Sports Net and ranked in the top 20 sports bars in America by Sports Illustrated. The laid-back atmosphere makes it a great hangout spot for you and your girls, and its location in the heart of LoDo Denver guarantees you an abundance of pre- and post-game activities.

3. Chopper’s

If you want a place with true Denver sports history in its blood, then Chopper’s is a place you cannot miss. Named for the bar’s co-founder and legendary Denver Nuggets athletic trainer Robert “Chopper” Traviglini, Chopper’s is a true Denver neighborhood hot spot, located in the heart of Cherry Creek. Denver locals love Chopper’s, and it’s been called “Best Sports Bar” and “Best Patio” by local media giants 5280 Magazine, Westword  and the Denver Post.

4. Jackson’s Denver

Located right across the street from Coors Field, Jackson’s is another local favorite. Enjoy a beer and a burger while catching a game on one of 40 High Definition flat screen televisions. Do I have any First Take fans on here? If so, you might recognize Jackson’s as the filming site for “Skip’s Tebow Bandwagon” episode in Denver last December.

5. The Tavern –  Littleton

The Tavern franchise is a celebrated company here in Denver, and their newest location in Historic Downtown Littleton is by far my favorite. The quiet location offers a nice change of pace from many of the other sports bars in town. The rooftop patio features wide-open seating and a beautiful fire place, and, of course, plenty of television screens.

Janie Williamson

Janie is a Colorado “semi-native” who grew up in the heart of Nebraska and moved to Denver at the age of 12. As you can imagine, football has been in her blood since birth, having been born a mere five miles away from Memorial Stadium, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She was only a few years old during the Nebraska dynasty of the mid-90s, but she remembers it well. Now in her early 20s, Janie has earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her goal is to join the community development department of an NFL franchise and work to build mutually beneficial relationships between the team and local nonprofit organizations. Denver Broncos football is king in the Mile High City, and Janie has come to fully embrace that passion and love for the team over the past ten years.
