The last game of preseason play might be one of the most dreadful times to watch one of your players suffer an injury. Especially when the player injured has been your starting linebacker since 2009 and three other of your defensive starters will not see the field in week one of the NFL season.
The 24-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers was not the most devastating blow to the Chiefs last Thursday night. The possibility of linebacker Derrick Johnson’s ankle injury being serious will be taken harder than the loss. According to Fox Sports Kansas City writer, Sean Keeler, the goal of the final preseason game for Kansas City was to head into their home opener on September 9 against Atlanta with no more injuries than they’ve already suffered.
Injuries could be the single factor in determining a successful start to the Chiefs regular season. With four defensive starters questionable, Matt Cassell and the offense with have to be counted on to provide the essential spark for the Chiefs to accomplish their goals against Atlanta and the duration of the 2012 NFL season.
