I had made jello shots before but not in many years. It was a little tedious, messy and I always thought – why not just shoot the booze? Well, partly because that would be a lot of booze to haul around and frankly, it is just more fun to eat jello and get a little tipsy. People love them too! I’ve made some good things but the reaction for jello shots seems to garner the most enthusiasm.
Originally I had my sister in law in mind for this Jellinator as she is the reining queen of jello shots. Then I realized I had an opportunity and dare I say duty, to try this gizmo out and see if it was as “neat-o” as advertised. You’re welcome!
In order to up the difficulty rating I didn’t wait until the kiddo was asleep – I decided to try it right after dinner and before bath time because anything is going to seem to make life easier if you’re uninterrupted and have all the time in the world.
The Jellinator is designed to fill multiple cups in just a few seconds. Before I had used a ladle or a cup with a pour spout but I am inclined to be a little clumsy which is why I gave up the jello shot game my freshman season. I am happy to report that I am back now and I anticipate having along and illustrious career ahead of me. I may even add bonus shot recipe each week just for you!
The Jellinator isn’t going to change the world, but it is a LOT of fun. It does exactly what they say, too. I made two dozen jello shots – two different flavors -in under 20 minutes (with a toddler milling about the kitchen.) Did I mention its fun? It is also clean which I love. I made my jello in a 4 cup measuring cup, poured it into the Jellinator and away I went. I could have made so many more if I had the recipes planned out. I “only” have another 104 cups left so I may need to order more. I think I could supply all of tailgate row with these in just a few hours.
The first shot was a “Limon Cuba Libre” (or rum and coke with lemon) – Now, I used Soda Stream syrup for the cola flavor which worked out wonderfully. You may also use coke instead of water for the hot water in the recipe.
1 cup boiling water + 1 package lemon jello
1 cup rum+ 1 cap-full cola syrup
1 cup boiling cola + 1 package lemon jello
1 cup rum
– as with all the recipes, you’ll be dissolving the jello into the hot liquid and then adding the alcohol as your “cold’ liquid.
Fruit with a punch:
1 cup boiling water + 1 package fruit punch jello
1/4 cup 99 bananas + 3/4 cup whipped cream vodka
I really enjoyed using the Jellinator and will probably make jello shots a staple of the season. Halloween with caramel apple shots, maybe some cranberry vodka thanksgiving desserts (and who says you have to have alcohol in it?) and some peppermint chocolate Christmas shots. Look for more recipes to come for football season too of course.
This would make a fun gift and I know guys would dig the technology of it too. Check out www.jellinator.com for retail locations or order online. They have party packs with the cups and lids included. If you only get the Jellinator, I highly recommend getting condiment cups with lids for ease of chilling and transportation. There are many great recipes out there and the Jellinator site has been kind enough to include some really creative ones for you too. Bottoms up!
