Team: New England Patriots
Bio: The 6’6″ 265 lb 23-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Rob is one of 5 brothers, all of which play sports. In his rookie season, Gronk wasted no time making a name for himself. He holds the record for most touchdowns by a tight end, recording 18 in 2011, and is the youngest player with 3 touchdown receptions in a game (2010, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers). In the offseason of this year, Gronkowski inked a six-year $54 million contract extension, the largest ever for an NFL tight end.
Athlete of the Week Honors: The Pats took their talents to London and Gronk stole the show. Gronk helped the Patriots to a 45-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams by boasting 146 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. The tight end then showed off some royal dancing moves for the London fans. Week 8 marked the second week in a row where Gronk scored 2 tds.
Did You Know?: Rob along with the whole Gronkowski clan are slated to pen a book titled, “Growing Up Gronk”. The book will chronicle the lives of the Gronkowski family, and give insight as to how dad Gordie and mom Diane were able to produce three NFL players, a professional baseball player, and another Division 1 college football player. Look for the book in 2013.
