It’s a bumblebee…it’s a jailbird…it’s the Steelers?
Yeah. So the Steelers have finally worn the highly anticipated throwback jerseys in celebration of their 80th season. The uniforms, which were originally worn in 1934, worked their magic because the Steelers were able to, for the first time this season, hold on to a leading score throughout the entire game.
I think the Redskins were just dizzy from seeing so many stripes. But I do not think that Steelers Nation will mind if anymore wins this season look like this one did. The Steelers really performed in Sunday afternoon’s game on home turf here at Heinz Field and they were able to bring out a 27-12 win to increase their record to 4-3 against the now 3-5 Redskins.
Some black and gold player highlights: Ben Roethlisberger threw for 222 yards and three touchdown passes, Jonathan Dwyer started for his second game and added 107 yards rushing, and Heath Miller caught four passes from Roethlisberger and made his sixth touchdown of the season. The whole team made this game look easy and looked like their old selves again.
And some player mishaps: Antonio Brown ran for a touchdown but did so backwards for 20-yards and eventually the touchdown was called-back, not cute to taunt the other team Antonio, DeAngelo Hall of the Redskins was thrown out of the game after saying a few choice words and fighting with the officials, he apparently got his striped uniforms mixed up, and Ryan Clark left the game and was diagnosed with a concussion, I love how hard he plays and how much effort he puts in, but be safe out there, injuries are serious and scary!
Honestly, I don’t think the Redskins had a chance. With the dizzying effects of the throwback jerseys, Frankenstorm weather upon us here on the East Coast, a prepared Steelers team and the cheers of thousands of Steelers fans armed with Terrible Towels, I don’t blame them for not bringing their best game. Actually, I am very okay with them losing on Sunday…just like anyone else who plays against “my” black and gold boys.
Next up: The Steelers take on the New York Giants on Sunday, November 4th at 4:25PM EST at MetLife Stadium. The Giants are currently ranked 1st in the NFC East and are 6-2. The Steelers will need to step up their road game and bring the confidence they have here in Pittsburgh to New Jersey, and maybe taking their bumblebee costumes with them won’t hurt either.
