12 Reasons I LOVE the NBA…

I LOVE ALL PROFESSIONAL SPORTS.. but here’s why the NBA is the best…

82 game season*

82 game regular season

12). Long Season

One of my favorite things about the NBA is that during the season there is always a game on televison. Each NBA team plays 82 games during the regular season(from November-April) which is followed by the NBA post season. I love football but I have a more intimate relationship with the Knicks because I can watch them play 3,4,5 times a week oppose to one game a week in the NFL. The MLB has a long season as well(162 games) but still I find the NBA more appealing due to the pace of the game…

11). Fast Pace Game

The game of basketball is fast pace and never has a dull moment from high scoring to  intense defense there is always something to be watching. An NBA game is made up of  four 12 minute quarters with a 10 minute break at the half. Yet the NBA still manages to end games within in 2 hours unlike football where penalties sometime drag the game to about 3 hours or baseball games which tend to be very unpredictable in length and can go on for hours.

10). Fashion

The collage of Amare Stoudemire on the right captures some of his many fashion statements. Many NBA players like Amare take pride in their fashion sense and often look like they stepped out of a fashion magazine(OR their idea of fashion) during post-game conferences. I always get excited to see what Amare is wearing after the game.

9). The Highlights

NBA highlights can be very exciting and entertaining to watch,  buzzers shots, dunks, and alley oops are sure to leave you feeling  ”WOWed.”

Carmelo Anthony, NYK

8). Eye Candy

The NBA has plenty of eye candy, Carmelo Anthony(pictured on the right) just happens to my FAVORITE. You can’t beat his smile, or when he sticks his tongue out while playing ball and talking. A fun drinking game would be to take a shot every time Melo sticks his tongue out(guaranteed to have you feeling good in no time).

More notable eye candy to check out-

*Darren Williams, Brooklyn Nets

*J.J. Redick, Orland Magic

*J.R. Smith, New York Knicks

*Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

*Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers

*Tiago Splitter, San Antonio Spurs

*Danilo Gallinari, Denver Nuggets

*Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls

*Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder

*D.J. Augustin, Charlotte Bobcats

7). Tattoos

If you want to see tatoos don’t look any further than an NBA game. Many NBA players have tatoos- some creative and sexy others have you thinking, “WHY?”- but lets me honest whether you like tattoos or not NBA players have awesome bodies, another reason I LOVE the NBA.

6). Heart/Intensity/Bloopers

Between players fighting, falling into stands, or making comical mistakes bloopers are extremely entertaining to watch. WHY? Because yes, even the best of the best make fools of themselves at times. Also basketball games are known to be very intense and there is nothing better than watching a player play his heart out to the point that he puts his own body at risk to make a play.

Michael Jordan

5.) “MJ”

Michael Jordan, need I say any more? This man does not even need a introduction, but he is who many believe to be the best NBA player of all time. Not to mention he could be added to my “eye candy” list. But the level of pride and intensity Michael Jordan put into not only games but practice, is one of the many reasons why the NBA is so great.  A notable example of Jordan’s passion of the game is what is known as the “The Flu Game”. It was game 5 of the NBA finals and Jordan woke up nauseated and sweaty and was later diagnosed with food poisoning. The Bulls trainer told him there was no way he could possibly play in the game-but Jordan did anyway. During the game he was visibly weak and pale, but he pushed through and lead the Bulls to a victory. At the end of the game Jordan collapsed in his teammate, Scottie Pippen’s arms.

4). Press Conferences

Press conference’s allow you to get to know the players better, help fans to understand what went right or wrong, and can at time be extremely humorous.

3). Trash Talk

Trash talk is very common in the NBA and is often used as ammunition by the opponent.
2). Drama

The NBA is full of great drama due to eam rivalries, trash talking, fights, history, etc.

1). The Fans

The number one reason I love the NBA is the fans because well, I am a fan who becomes excited when I meet fellow fans-whether you cheer for my team or a rival team it’s always fun to interact with fellow fans.

Hiiii, i’m Alyssa, i was born and raised in Long Island, New York. I just recently graduated with a BA in Broadcast Journalism and Political science from Hofstra University. I currently work as a waitress, which is how i’ve made a living the last 6 years from the end of high school through college. I love waitressing, quick money and each table is like a mini performance, so I feel like it has improved my “speaking in front of others” skills. My greatest memory waitressing is when I waited on former NY Jets safety Victor Green… I had no idea he was Victor Green, not to mention my nails were painted green with, G-O- J-E-T-S spelt out in white, and I was going on and on to Green and his the guy he was with, how i was a HUGE, die- hard JETS fan(which I am)..eventually I get into what i want to do career wise(NFL OR NBA reporter). Then Green asks me to interview him as if he is a former NFL player. so I do. Eventually Green goes to the bathroom and his friend tells me who he is, i google him, and find out I actually did just interview a former NFL player. =) !! Anyways I just completed an Internship with News 12 Long Island in May, I worked in the sports department basically covering high school and college games, performed interviews, created highlights for the show, etc. I loved it and would definatley be interested in doing highlights for ESPN. BUt ultimately my dream is to be a sideline reporter for an NFL team(preferably the JETS) or NBA, Knicks or Nets would be AWESOME. My favorite sports teams are the Yankees, Knicks and Jets. I strongly DISlike the NY GIANTS, NE PATRIOTS, BOSTON CELTICS, BOSTON RED SOX, MIAMI HEAT and the METS, although R.A. Dickey has sort of won me over.. I loved his book “Wherever I wind Up”…. and I did enjoy watching Santana’s no hitter this season(1st in mets history) I was happy for the Mets and Santana. But basically my feelings towards being a real fan means that if you’re a JETS fan you hate the giants AND if you’re a Yankees fan you hate the METS.. you can’t just be a New York fan, it’s not fair. When you have the kind of passion I do for the JETS, liking the Giants is unfathomable.
