No one expected it to be pretty, after all it was a game to solidify last place in the NFC East rankings. A rookie Eagles quarterback making his start more than half way through the season due to the Mike Vick concussion situation isn’t ideal. It had to be done and so it was. The meeting of two rookie quarterbacks took place on Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Washington Redskins.
Philadelphia Eagles fans remember being saved by back-up quarterbacks like A.J. Feeley, but there’s really no fixing this season as it stands. Nick Foles, minus the rookie cobwebs, still looks promising to me. Foles had similar issues to those of the concussed Mike Vick who has been in the league since 2001. It wasn’t a terrific rookie game by any means, but some of the media reactions have been ridiculous. The offensive line, yet again was a disaster, which didn’t help things.
A total of nine penalties for 70 yards will not help any team win a game. No thanks to newly signed RG Jake Scott for two of those. Scott has only been with the Eagles for about a week and has already caught whatever is plaguing this team. Star RB LeSean McCoy went down with a concussion late in the fourth quarter and had to be carted off the field, not that anyone still wanted to be on the field at that point.
This Eagles defense allowed Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III to complete 14 – of – 15 passes, notch 200 yards and four touchdowns in the 31-6 loss. After losing the sixth game in a row, the Eagles have almost reached the longest in-season losing streak since 1994. Then coach, Rick Kotite, was fired after a seven game losing streak occurred.
Eagles players and fans, we have six more weeks of this mess and quite frankly I just want to know when they are going to give Andy Reid the old heave ho. Reid has done a lot for Philadelphia Eagles football, but everyone and everything has an expiration date…his was up, in my eyes, a couple of weeks ago.
Is anyone looking forward to possibly the worst Monday Night Football game of the season? I don’t even have the strength to rally anymore, but LET’S GO EAGLES!
