What does it take to silence the naysayers? To hush the doubters? To quiet the haters? Are the Atlanta Falcons not number one in the NFC? Do we not tie for the lead in the NFL with our AFC counterparts the Houston Texans? We are the ONLY two teams to hold a 9-1 record. But where’s our shout outs? Where’s out extended highlights on ESPN? Why are we not a subject matter during Sports Center?

Is it the general consensus that we ARE NOT Super Bowl contenders? And if so, why not? We did it before.  More importantly during the last four years the Falcons (under General Manager Thomas Dimitroff, Head Coach Mike Smith and Quarterback Matt Ryan) have been one of the best franchises in the NFC. Since the beginning of the 2008 season, the Falcons have recorded four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in franchise history. They led the NFC in number of wins during that period with 43. Mike Smith’s 43–21 regular-season record in that span is the fifth-best in the league. The Falcons had the NFL’s second best winning percentage at home during the period of 2008 to 2010 with a .833 percentage. The Falcons have also qualified for the playoffs three times in 2008, 2010 and 2011, but lost all three in the first round.

So why the attention to some of the losing teams such as our arch nemesis the New Orleans Saints who hold a record of 5-5? Were they not 0-4 when the Atlanta Falcons were pushing 4-0? Now they’re in an “upswing”? C’mon!! Can the Atlanta Falcons get a pat on the back? A “you’re doing awesome”? Is this team not showing up and showing out? Haven’t they put their best cleat forward?

Yeah, I know it’s more about stats with these commentating sports guys, how many interceptions made, how much yardage gained. But I say it’s the TEAMWORK that makes the DREAM WORK! These guys are putting in work and deserve more than an honorable mention or the obligatory final score/ and breakdown of plays made and plays missed.

So, Dirty Birds, if you hadn’t already heard it. (even if you have) here you go…WE LOVE YOU Matt Ryan, THANK YOU Tony Gonzalez, WE APPRECIATE YOU Julio Jones, GOOD JOB Asante Samuel, GOOD LOOKING OUT Todd McClure, WAY Roddy White AND you too Michael Turner! Thank you Coach Mike Smith for this fabulous season…win, lose or draw.

I know my true blue fans will agree our Atlanta Falcons rock!
