Jets-Buy or Sell?

Do you buy the Jets optimism for the remainder of the season or are they selling us a bunch of bull ****?

More than half way through the season the New York Jets are 3-6, only 4 teams(Chiefs, Browns, Jaguars, and Panthers) have a worse record. If the season ended today the New York Jets would finish wish the 11 seed tied with Oakland and Buffalo(assuming the Jets lose the second game to Buffalo this season). Yet somehow the Jets are guaranteeing a playoff spot. We can infer then that the Jets then don’t believe they are going to lose any more games this season-which is a pretty bold opinion considering they lost the last 3 straight. If we are getting technical they can probably lose one more game and clinch but 2? Not likely, 2 loses has them finishing 8-8 and the current AFC wild card teams(steelers and Colts) already have 6 wins, so I am  assuming both teams will win more than 2 games the remainder of the season. On a positive note though if the Jets do somehow do get to 9-7 and the Colts win only 3 more games and finish with 9-7 – the Jets clinch the playoffs(assuming the Jets and Colts finish tied at the 8 spot).

Lets look at the Jets schedule the remainder of the season.

Week 11 Jets(3-6) @ Rams(3-5-1)

The Jets have to win this game, if they can’t beat the Rams, you would have to be on drugs to believe they can go 6-0 the remainder of the season. This is one of the games we must assume they win if we are going to let them talk about playoffs. Again this should be a win, but I am not sure you can guarantee any game as a win when your team in 3-6.

Week 12 Patriots(6-3) @ Jets(3-6)

Assuming the Jets beat the Rams and find themselves at 4-6 this game is going to be HUGE. I mean it’s always huge when you’re playing the Patriots but the Jets are at home on Thanksgiving with hopefully their season on the line. The Jets should go into the game feeling pretty good about themselves considering they were a coin toss away from beating them the last time the 2 met. Also the Patriots aren’t as invincible as they have been in previous seasons. They have given up a bunch of leads this season and almost lost to the 3-6 Bills on Sunday. Although we have previously determined the Jets can lose 1 game and still clinch-I do not think this can be the game they lose. I do think it may be the most challenging of the 7 remaining games, but I can’t see the jets coming back from 4-7. I just don’t see the Jets going 5-0 the rest of the way. But technically as long as the Jets win 1 of the next 2 games they are still in the running for a playoff spot.

Week 13 Cardinals (4-5) @ Jets(3-6)

Bottom line-the Jets have to win this game.

Week 14 Jets (3-6)  at Jaguars(1-8)

This seems like an obvious win, but again it’s the Jets and although this looks to be a win for the team, will it matter at this point ? Even if I believe the Jets will beat the Rams, am I really sure the jets will win either against the Cardinals or the Patriots. If you’re not a Jets fan you can make a strong case both of those games will be loses.

Week 15 Jets(3-6) **7-6 @ Titans(4-6)

Seems like a winnable game on paper.

Week 16 Chargers @ Jets (3-6)

This cannot be the Jets 1 loss, this will be an important game for the Jets, There is a good change the Chargers will be in the running for a wild card spot as well-so the Jets must defeat them to ensure they have the tiebreaker advantage if necessary.

Week 16 Jets(3-6) @ Bills (3-6)

It just seems like the Jets are at their best when they play the Bills, lets look back to the week 1 matchup, Jets sure fooled us, huh. I expect nothing less from the Jets this time. If I am going to be sure of anything, I am sue the Jets will show up against the Bills. I mean hey, the Jets could potentially go into this game 9-6 , defeat the Bills in a blow out and have our playoff expectations soaring.

So I guess it’s not unreasonable to buy into the Jets optimism when you look at the rest of the Jets schedule, but when I think about how they have played in their in last 3 losses, I honestly cannot grab onto any  substance that leads me to believe the Jets will win this Sunday against the Rams.

As Jets fans should we even want our team to clinch or should we hope the team crumbles to ensure change-The Jets organization has made many Jets fans including myself a little delusional. Week after week I see nothing encouraging on the field. Jets games have become very frustrating to watch, the whole time Im just thinking about how miserable I am and how wish I could turn the game off, but I can’t because I am a long suffering Jets fan. To me Jets games are literally like a bad car accident, I don’t want to look but for some reason I HAVE TO. Yet somehow Rex Ryan and Jets have convinced me we are still in the running for the playoffs-they actually had me looking forward to the Seattle game convinced the Jets were going to win. Now the game is over and  the Jets have just taken another step in wrong direction, yet Rex and Sanchez are still telling me they are optimistic about the rest of the season. AND YOU KNOW WHAT, I’M BUYING INTO IT.

Hiiii, i’m Alyssa, i was born and raised in Long Island, New York. I just recently graduated with a BA in Broadcast Journalism and Political science from Hofstra University. I currently work as a waitress, which is how i’ve made a living the last 6 years from the end of high school through college. I love waitressing, quick money and each table is like a mini performance, so I feel like it has improved my “speaking in front of others” skills. My greatest memory waitressing is when I waited on former NY Jets safety Victor Green… I had no idea he was Victor Green, not to mention my nails were painted green with, G-O- J-E-T-S spelt out in white, and I was going on and on to Green and his the guy he was with, how i was a HUGE, die- hard JETS fan(which I am)..eventually I get into what i want to do career wise(NFL OR NBA reporter). Then Green asks me to interview him as if he is a former NFL player. so I do. Eventually Green goes to the bathroom and his friend tells me who he is, i google him, and find out I actually did just interview a former NFL player. =) !! Anyways I just completed an Internship with News 12 Long Island in May, I worked in the sports department basically covering high school and college games, performed interviews, created highlights for the show, etc. I loved it and would definatley be interested in doing highlights for ESPN. BUt ultimately my dream is to be a sideline reporter for an NFL team(preferably the JETS) or NBA, Knicks or Nets would be AWESOME. My favorite sports teams are the Yankees, Knicks and Jets. I strongly DISlike the NY GIANTS, NE PATRIOTS, BOSTON CELTICS, BOSTON RED SOX, MIAMI HEAT and the METS, although R.A. Dickey has sort of won me over.. I loved his book “Wherever I wind Up”…. and I did enjoy watching Santana’s no hitter this season(1st in mets history) I was happy for the Mets and Santana. But basically my feelings towards being a real fan means that if you’re a JETS fan you hate the giants AND if you’re a Yankees fan you hate the METS.. you can’t just be a New York fan, it’s not fair. When you have the kind of passion I do for the JETS, liking the Giants is unfathomable.
