The Ravens defeated the Browns 25-15 in their second meeting of the season. The Ravens got out to a fast start to secure a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter. The offense looked good for the most part. RBs Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce ran the ball well. Rice scored the 1st touchdown of the game, his 6th of the season. Pierce followed up to scored his 1st NFL career touchdown. WR Anquan Boldin caught a couple bullets to the chest from QB Joe Flacco.
The Browns made some adjustments in the second quarter. Rookie QB Brandon Weeden started to get into a rhythm but made a couple rookie mistakes. RB Trent Richardson was running all over the Ravens defense but they could not make a play for the end-zone. K Phil Dawson put the Browns on the board with three field goals to end the 1st half with a score of 14-9.
In the third quarter, the once dead Browns fans started to come alive. The Ravens defense continued to struggle with stopping the run while the offense could not convert a first down. S Ed Reed made a rare drop of an intercepted pass but CB Cary Williams picked off Weeden for the second time this season. Dawson kicked another field goal to bring the Browns within two.
The Ravens were plagued by penalties in the start of the game but it was a key penalty against the Browns that negated a touchdown to swing the momentum back to the Ravens. The invasion of the Ravens Snatchers was over and the real Ravens showed up in the fourth quarter. Flacco settled down. WRs Torrey Smith and Boldin caught perfect passes for a touchdown and two-point conversion to put the Ravens back on top. There was also a rare Tyrod Taylor sighting. K Justin Tucker sealed the deal with a 43 yard field goal.
Although Terrell Suggs was relatively quiet during the game, he took time early in the afternoon to engage a group of Brown’s fans, “This the dawg pound. You know I made my living off the Browns.”
Next up, the Ravens come back home to take on the Oakland Raiders.
