When was the last time your NFL team had a home game when your two best receivers had record setting games? How about a time when your No. 1 drafted QB tied for the record of the most wins for a rookie quarterback who was drafted first overall? Ok, tell me when was the last time not one but two of your team’s cheerleaders shaved their heads in honor of their head coach and to raise money for cancer research? I understand, you can’t if you are not a Colts’ fan. I think it’s safe to say the Indianapolis Colts rock!
The Colts have had an incredible season full of unexpected highs and equally surprising lows. Sunday’s game against the Bills was jam packed with headliners and storylines for the history books. T.Y. Hilton opened the game with a record-breaking 75-yard touchdown run on a punt return. Hilton has been a breakthrough star for the Colts in his first year with 5 touchdowns and 33 receptions. Not to be out done, veteran receiver Reggie Wayne set a new record by catching three or more passes in his 59th consecutive game. Andrew Luck also got in on the record-breaking action against Buffalo. As Indy closed the game 7-4, Luck joined the 3,000-mile high club. Luck hit 3,205 passing yards through 11 games, joining the ranks of Peyton Manning to be the only two Colts rookies to top 3,000 yards.
These players will surely make history in years to come, but Colts cheerleaders Megan M. and Crystal Ann stole the spotlight with their head shaving antics. The two women took on Colts mascot, Blue’s Twitter challenge for one cheerleader to shave her head if he could raise $10,000 for leukemia research. When Megan agreed to the challenge, Crystal also decided to get it on the fun and support the cause. The Indianapolis community came together to raise over $22,000, which was donated to the IU Health Simon Cancer Center. Megan and Crystal got their hair cut at Lucas Oil with thousands of fans watching and taking pictures (I hate getting my hair done in a crowded salon let alone among thousands of strangers)! Like Demi Moore in G.I. Jane, both women looked gorgeous post haircut. Megan has made appearances on several network sports shows talking about that $10,000 haircut. She says she was happy to shave her head and let young girls who are fighting cancer know that they have supporters.
Reason #1051 why the Colts rock: Just one season after a major quarterback exchange, a heartbreaking 2-14 record and missing the playoffs the Colts have picked themselves up and become possible playoff contenders. They will spend their week preparing for Sunday’s away game against the 4-7 Lions. This will be the first time the two teams match up this season but this is always an enjoyable game against our neighbors to the north. The boys in Blue hope to seal the deal on a Wild Card play off appearance this season.
