New Era: Tennessee Volunteer Football

As kickoff nears to the 2013 football season for the Tennessee Volunteers, anxiety and excitement builds for Vol fans all around.  Some things to keep in mind:

1.  bUTch Jones: Although everyone is excited about what Jones was able to accomplish over the off-season with several great players committing, let’s just all hold our horses.  Jones hasn’t coached a game yet, and this game won’t be the preview everyone is expecting.  After all, the Vols play the Austin Peay State University Governors.  The game should an easy win.  The real test will start week 3 against Oregon.

2.  QB Situation: Although Justin Worley has been named starter, expect to see quite a bit of Nathan Peterman as well, not just this game, but throughout the season.  This could prove beneficial for the Vols down the road.  Worley has a good accuracy, but not as strong of an arm.  The Vols haven’t seen much of Peterman, but the off-season workouts have shown that he has been developing well and could be a threat down field.  The problem for both QBs will be the lack of depth at receiver, especially with the departure of Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson.

3.  Expectations: Although there is so much hype over this season, I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but don’t expect a winning record.  The team is rebuilding.  Not just at the head coaching position, but all across the depth chart.  There are so many young guys that will get a chance to get some action and build for the future of the team.

This being said, OVERALL: Get excited for this season.  It’s the greatest time of the year, VOL FOOTBALL IS BACK!
