Not only has ESPN ranked the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new uniforms as the worst in all of professional sports, but after Week 1 they look to be the worst team, as well. As a Jacksonville native, we’re always disappointed. First, we’re set up with high expectations. Then, we’re hit with a somehow surprisingly bigger and worse let down- every single season.
To start off Week 1, the Jags hosted the only other team that was just as bad as they were last season, the Kansas City Chiefs; yet managed to still dramatically fail. Jacksonville’s offense had fewer than 200 total yards and scored zero points. In fact, the Jacksonville Jaguars only scored two points the entire game- thanks to the special team’s blocked punt that resulted in a safety at the very beginning of the game. TWO. POINTS. They weren’t even a productive enough offense to get within field goal range and bring out a kicker.
While the entire Jacksonville offense looked terrible and QB Blaine Gabbert threw two interceptions, the offensive line was, by far, the worst unit on the field, allowing him to be sacked six times. To extend already troubled waters, Gabbert sustained a hand injury towards the end of the game that has rendered him out for week two against the Raiders.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were 2-14 last season. Yet, they still managed to set the record for worst season opener in their nineteen year franchise history this week- and this is only the first game.
What did you think of the Jags performance? How do you think they will look this season?
