Sunday afternoon the Jets got hit pretty hard, falling to the Tennessee Titans 38-13.
The Jets suffered throughout this game mainly because they started off with an immense amount of penalties and turnovers, which began early in the first half. Sadly enough, the most horrific thing Jets fans saw this weekend was another one of their beloved quarterbacks get crushed under pressure. Geno Smith’s performance was that of a rookie. He had two interceptions and two very bad fumbles – both of which showed he was barely aware of the players around him. In order for the Jets to regain a better position in the AFC East, Smith needs to concentrate on his game and stay competitive.
Besides Smith, the rest of the Jets offense did not play as well as they should. They allowed the Titans to pressure Smith, causing more penalties. Defensively, the Jets competed very poorly this weekend letting the Titans score 38 points compared to their measly 13.
The Jets need to get back in the game, meaning they need to stop with all the penalties and start strategezing on how to get the ball in the endzone. Another major setback is that Santonio Holmes is expected to miss a couple of weeks due to the hamstring injury he obtained on Sunday. But the Jets are looking to sign wide receiver David Nelson who has 94 receptions for 1,042 yards and eight touchdowns in his career. Although this is just speculation right now, Nelson would be a good addition to the team. Nelson could help the Jets passing and possession in the red zone, but his ACL tear from the past might affect his future game potential.
After this week’s loss, the Jets formula for success has let them down. They need to regroup and get ready for an even tougher match up on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
